Panel Discussions & Red Tent Marketplace
Gather up all of your menstruation-related questions, concerns, misconceptions and ideas, and join us for this very special community celebration. Featuring a host of dynamic panels and our Red Tent Marketplace, this event offers attendees the opportunity to immerse themselves in the wondrous world of menstruation.
The program will include three panel discussions on various aspects of menstruation: Uterine Fibroids, Endometriosis, and Global Solutions to Menstrual Hygiene Access.
Throughout the day, attendees are invited to peruse the marketplace, where they can interact with vendors; chat with educators; be inspired by healing practitioners; learn about menstrual resources and organizations; or just hang out and bask in the menstrual glow!
FILMS & PANELS
Global Perspectives on Menstruation
This program highlights the global movement to empower women and girls with menstrual hygiene education and resources. Featuring three short films followed by a dynamic panel of filmmakers, entrepreneurs, and NGO workers, Global Perspectives will offer insight into the strategies being used to help support menstrual management solutions that are culturally sensitive, affordable, sustainable, and hygienic.
The Stranger Within: Fibroid Stories (Work-in-progress)
Directed by Roderick Giles & PaSean Wilson-Ashley, USA, 2015
This film profiles PaSean Wilson-Ashley, Beverly Johnson, Rhonda Ross, and other women as they share their experiences with uterine fibroids (benign tumors), a condition that disproportionately affects African American women and can cause debilitating pain. It also explores the alarming trend of using hysterectomies as a corrective surgery, and offers insight into other treatment options. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with the film’s directors, Dr. Millicent Comrie, and Queen Afua.
EndoTruths: Infertility and Mental Health

Endometriosis is a commonly misdiagnosed condition that is often severely painful and can have devastating effects on a woman's fertility. In the film, EndoTruths, licensed patient counselor and advocate, Casey Berna, profiles endometriosis patients who share their experiences with the disease. Following the screening, Berna will lead a panel of experts and activists in a conversation that can offer valuable insight into the realities of endometriosis.
